Decluttering My Closet

Hi Friends!

I don’t know if it’s because I’ve been home for so long or if it’s just the time of the year, but I have been feeling the urge, pretty frequently, to declutter my closet.

Thought I would bring you along for the ride and share some of my tips when decluttering!

First things first, take everything out. This will really give you a good look at all you have and it gives you the ability to pick up and really look at every piece.

Just a heads up, this might cause some anxiety. Keep in the back of your mind that it will be SO worth it once you’re all done.

Next, go through each item individually. There will be items that you know 100% you want to keep because it’s something that you wear frequently, those items can go back into your closet right away.

For items you are unsure about, don’t fit or are ruined in one way or another, put them in a pile. For now throw it all in the same pile.

While you are putting the items you plan to keep back in your closet, I encourage you to make a system that works for you to find clothing easily!

I separate my items by clothing type (tank top, t-shirt, long sleeve etc), and then colour! Lightest too darkest is what works best for me.

Once you have everything back in your closet that you are going to keep, it’s time to go through the unsure pile you made.

Out of the unsure pile, make three different piles

To Donate: Any items that are still in good condition that you want to donate

To Sell: Anything that you think you can sell! I personally use Poshmark for this and I have made some good sales! I also keep all of these items in one bag in my closet. It’s nice to sell some stuff and make some extra cash every once in a while but be careful to note how long you are keeping each item. I give myself 6 months to sell something and if it dose not sell in six months, it’s donation time!

To Upcycle or throw out: Anything that isn’t in good enough condition to donate or sell. You can choose to upcycle it or just throw it away.

Everything in the donate pile is to leave the home immediately. Trust me. If you leave it around for a few days or weeks you will end up pulling items from that bag and putting them back in your closet.

If you wont be near a donation bin anytime soon, I just put a bag in the trunk of my car so that it’s out of site but still in an accessible place when you come across a donation bin.

For everyone with not access to a car, I really suggest putting it in a place in your house that it can just be tucked away. Maybe the front closet.

Everything that is going to be sold, try putting them up for sale the same day!

And for everything that is to be thrown out, I again suggest to put it in the garbage right away.

Honestly I feel like a completely new person after having decluttered my closet! It’s like a weight lifted off my shoulder.

Anyone else feel like their best self after decluttering ?!
