Starting Your Month Off On The Right Foot

Hey Ya’ll!

Anyone else wondering how March is over? Like how? Where did the month go? Ok ok I digress.

As we are moments away from April I want to share some things I do to start off the month on a fresh note and honestly to just prepare.

Step one, take a moment to reflect on the past month. I personally like to journal and write out highlights over the past month. I know we’re still pretty much confined to our homes so when you’re thinking of your highlights don’t put too much pressure on them honestly the other month one of my highlights was trying out a new recipe and not cancelling my therapy sessions during that month. I also like to reflect on things that didn’t go great that I can try and focus on adjusting one of mine was not sticking to my skin care routine as often as I had hoped.

Taking the time to reflect can not only show you things you might want to focus on for the next months but it also shows you things that went well that you can try and stick to!

My next step is not the most fun but it’s one of those things that just needs to be done. Budget. A somewhat tedious task but since I’ve started it I’ve been able to manage my money so much better. I have a running spread sheet of our monthly expenses and income and each month I just go through it and make sure nothing has changed, and ensure any changes that need to be made are. I make sure to put any money left over from the month before into a savings account. Don’t forget to budget for unexpected items too! Like April is the month I get my winter tires off so I need to make sure that’s accounted for.

Pour yourself your favourite drink (hell to the yes vodka counts!) and take some time to focus on your finances!

I take some time to make sure my calendar is up to date. I usually schedule out my weeks every Sunday, but that being said I do take some time before the month starts to make sure bigger events are put in my calendar. I like to put in payment due dates, birthdays, any work events, if my car needs servicing, these types of ‘events’.

I just find it easier to plan out my weeks if all of these events are accounted for.

Lastly I set a couple of goals for the month that align with my larger yearly goals. I am a pen to paper person so I love to write it out in my journal, but I am trying to transition to a more electronic based system. I have chosen Notion as my electronic based system. Notion is a bit confusing to get use to because there is just SO much you can do but once you find the right template.. *chefs kiss!*

What rituals do you have when starting up a new month!
