Transitional Home Decor

Transitional Home Decor

Let’s talk about what to do when we’re between seasons in terms of home decor.

Maybe unpopular opinion but I have been trying to wait until AFTER Remembrance Day to start decorating for Christmas. In my personal opinion I find decorating for Christmas before Remembrance Day casts a shadow over Remembrance Day and I just don’t find it respectful.

I love the Christmas holidays don’t get me wrong but I want to slow it down and not jump the gun. And remember to take the time to honour those who have died in the line of duty so we can have the freedoms we have today.

So, transitional home decor. When pumpkin season is over but the Holiday’s have yet to start.

I start by taking out all of my obviously Thanksgiving decor, turkeys, corn, gourds, and anything with the word thankful on it. Next I take down all the obviously Halloween decor, so that’s the pumpkins, bats, skeletons whatever your Halloween fancy is. Pack it all up and save em’ for next year.

First things first, stick with neutrals. I swapped out my orange throw pillows for some beautiful cream coloured ones.

Sticking with neutrals, I swap out my kitchen towels, I use a black and white plaid one.

I replaced all my indoor pumpkins with some vases and candles.

Neutral florals are my go to for the fall and winter season. Check out your local greenhouse or flower shop for some fresh cuts. Or head to Michaels for some dried florals. They have an amazing selection and they are literally always having a sale.

Succulents are also great for simple small home decor. They are very inexpensive, easy to care for (trust me) so I highly recommend having them placed around your house.

Get experimental with textures. Add all the blankets possible, maybe some extra pillows if you fancy.
