What To Do During Lockdown
Hey Y’all!
Here we are again, nearly a year later in another province wide lockdown. Personally I think the call was made to late but who am I to say.. ANYWAYS!
I want to chat about handling lockdown because IT’S FUCKING HARD.
It’s okay to not be okay right now, hell it’s okay to not be okay! Like my girl Meredith said in Grey’s “Not everybody has to be happy all of the time. That’s not mental health. That’s crap”
We’re stuck inside, it’s winter time (sup SAD) and we see the light at the end of the tunnel but it keeps creeping further away. That will make anyone not be okay.
Let’s talk about some ways to deal.
Number One: I know it’s hard but STAY THE FUCK HOME. I was on Instagram on Tuesday when the stay home order was put in place and came across a post from Avery Swartz that hit home for me. A post encouraging people to stay the fuck home, a club of heroes in sweatpants she says and I love it for us. Not only do I STRONGLY encourage you to join this club but I also encourage you to go checkout Avery Swartz’s IG page and if you’re in a position to purchase STFH Club merch all the proceeds are donated to VON Canada!
Number Two: Advocate for yourself. If there is one thing I’ve learned over this past year is the importance of advocating for myself. If you were working from home back in March, but for whatever reason, you are in the office now, talk to your employer. Explain that you aren’t comfortable, reiterate what the officials have said and keep on requesting to work from home.
Number Three: Find a hobby. Maybe pick one that you use to enjoy that somewhere along the way fell by the wayside. I’m planning on getting back into knitting, supplies have been ordered from Michaels and my project has been picked out! Pick something you have been meaning to learn and start learning it.
Number four: Make a gourmetish breakfast and sit down to eat with your housemates if you have any. If you don’t, enjoy a gourmet breakfast by yourself or virtually with friends or family. Ps if you’re a fellow Monday to Friday worker make sure you make this special breakfast on a workday! If that means you have to wake up a bit earlier to enjoy this please do so.
Number five: Do some home organization or redecorating. A nice change in space will do wonders for your mental health. And it’s just such a fun task! Something as simple as moving your coffee station the other side of the counter changes up your routine just so slightly but makes it feel so new!
Let me know something you are planning on doing to help get through the lockdown!
